Kansas Mission Summary

The Knights were briefed about a multiple homicide in a small town near Kansas where 11 teens were found dead in a barn with one survivor and some kind of sigil of a skull present. The kids seemed to have been mauled to death by wild animals.
In Kansas, Dawn and Zatanna went to a local hospital to talk to the surviving girl. The survivor, Erica, told them about "demonic cats" with tentacles, which Dawn recognized as displacer beasts.The girl was concerned about whether a boy named Jim had gotten away.
Meanwhile, Gus, Adam, and Dimitri went to explore the crime scene. They lied their way into the scene by Adam saying they were part of the Department of Wildlife and Parks. In the barn, they found the flaming skull sigil mentioned, but also an arcane summoning circle which Gus realized was pretty shoddy. They found six-footed feline paw prints, several of which indicated they'd left the barn. Gus used speak with animals to talk to a squirrel, which told him about some "fur beasts" in the woods. Dimitri tracked them into the woods and Dawn called to them what they had learned at the hospital. Knowing that there were potentially six displacer beasts on the loose, they waited for them to arrive after tracking the creatures to a farmhouse. Some of them heard screaming in the house and burst into the house, where displacer beasts were eating the inhabitants. And also John Constantine was there, ineffectually fighting them off, as one of the beasts managed to shed his scroll of banishment. They leaped into the fray, Gus using magic to outline the beasts to counter their displacement, as Constantine blocked their access to the stairs with a magic circle and aided in covering the beasts with glitterdust and then finally blinding the pack leader. In the middle of the fight, Zatanna ran into Constantine and was clearly shocked to see the man, who she apparently knew. Zatanna managed to freeze the pack leader in a block of ice and Adam tested its thoughts to make sure it wasn't the kid Jim turned into a horrible monster. When they were sure it wasn't, they spoke to Constantine, and learned that he was Zatanna's ex (and as far as she had known, he was last checked into an insane asylum...). John explained how he had gotten here in time to choose between saving the kid or his parents - and had chosen the kid.
John, Zee, Dawn, and Gus headed upstairs, where they found Jim, who was clutching a book. When they tried to take the book, Jim spilled that Constantine was the person he had stolen the book from in the first place, and Constantine tried to deflect this as ramblings of a disturbed kid. Gus took the book from him and the kid said he would go stay with his aunt. They talked to Constantine who admitted the book was his, and that the merchant had accidentally switched the book with some comics the kid had bought. He admitted he needed the book for some demon summoning of his own, and Zee reluctantly gave it to him.
Afterwards, there was some partying with Constantine and talking about random shit while they did the drugs they'd stolen from the kid.
