Andres (Unofficial mission)
Emma S., Snow, Regina, Neal. | October 2014
Wynn asked Snow and Regina to come to Andres to join in on an investigation with Emma Swan. There were homes catching fire and burning down, and witnesses claimed the fire looked unusual. It had resulted in at least one casualty - a Shadowkind man with no family. A strange figure had been sighted lurking around who had somehow magically harmed the witnesses, and wore a hood that hid their identity. Another villager reported coming across such a figure and finding themselves turned into slime temporarily. Snow thought maybe someone had powers that were out of control, but Regina expected a trap. Emma wanted to wait and see what they found.
They headed off to interrogate the previously transfigured slime, and Emma admitted to them that she had seen flames like Wynn had described during the battle for Andres - from Gold. Regina told them that Gold had remembered her, but hadn't remembered Mary Margaret as Snow White. Arriving at the house, they were shocked to find that they were looking at the body of a man called Gregor, who they had just found dead by the river. He thought he had seen someone watching, who had headed up a path into the woods. A cleric on the scene told them that the man's heart had been removed.
Emma ran out to try to find the person in question, and they found a young girl whose arm had been withered. Seeing someone moving through the woods, Emma tore after them, Snow and Regina stopped to help the girl and get the cleric.
Emma followed the figure into a shack in the woods, and found the mysterious figure: who turned out to be her ex, Neal. At first, she didn't want to believe that he was the one responsible for any of this, or that he had magic at all. He explained that he hadn't meant to hurt anyone, but that he was keeping the dagger away from Gold, and it had somehow affected or corrupted him. Neal told her that she had forgotten from the Veil, but that she had brought him back to Storybrooke and that she'd told him she loved him. She insisted he hand over the dagger, and he obliged, asking if Gold was there, and Emma learned, to her horror, that Gold was Neal's father. She told him that he had to come with her, to fix what he had done and he told her that he didn't know if he could, because he couldn't control his magic. He thought the best course of action was for him to stay far away from the dagger. Neal told her that he'd found the dagger in a pawn shop and been dealing with this curse for about six months, but it had only gotten so intense when Gold was nearby. He asked her to take the dagger off the island, away from him, to see if the magic would reverse on its own. He also swore her to secrecy about it. Emma agreed to give him two days. He also warned her that whoever had the dagger could control the Dark One.
Emma returned to Regina and Snow, and lied to them that the figure had gotten away, advising them to not bother trying to track him. The cleric healed up the girl, who told them her version of events, saying she had been attacked by a monster dressed all in black. Emma suggested that they try to find out about the house that had burned, while she went to talk to Hasmed.
Emma took the dagger to Hasmed, and told him the truth, asking if it was possible that Neal was telling the truth, or if he had been taking the magic for himself. Hasmed said that it was not possible for it to be channeled directly, and speculated that it could only 'infect' someone who had a bloodlink to the one bound to the blade. Emma explained to Hasmed about all those who were from the same world(s) and their curse, as well as about Rumpelstiltskin. She explained to him who Neal was to her, and that he was Gold's son. Hasmed insisted they find Neal again and said he would use a scrying spell to do so, suggesting she bring in Regina and Snow on the issue. They stowed the dagger in Hasmed's secret vault.
Regina and Snow went to check out the scene of the crime and Regina figured out that it was dark, necromantic magic at work. They found their way to the shack and found that there had been a fire there recently. The person had left, and hidden their tracks... and Emma joined up with them at that point again and told them she had found the dagger. She explained she had taken it to Hasmed and that it belonged to Gold, but left out that she had seen Neal, until they returned to Hasmed and he spilled the beans. The scrying spell showed them Neal at the bar and Emma went to find him, while Snow filled Regina in on who Neal was. Snow told her and Hasmed that Neal was Henry's father and that she was worried that the dagger could potentially affect him too because of his bloodline.
Emma got to the bar, and convinced Neal to come talk to Hasmed. She brought him back to everyone else, and Neal told Hasmed that he didn't have any magic of his own. Hasmed suggested they take him back to the castle and have him attempt to channel it in a controlled environment. Snow dropped that Henry was there, and Neal wanted to see him, causing an argument between Emma, who had wanted to keep that info from Neal, and Snow, who thought he had a right to know. Neal agreed to go back to the castle.
